It’s Monday!

It may be an opinion shared by few, but we feel that Mondays can be great: a whole slew of new priorities, possibilities, and even intriguing problems. Good music helps us as we approach all these things that a new week brings; some recent recommendations to help you wrap your head around the tasks at hand: Colour Revolt, Kate Simko, and Pandora’s “Bassnectar” station.

Another thing that gets us pumped up is seeing a campaign launch that involves our work. Brian shot for VO5′s website relaunch, and the time has arrived! Head over to their site to check out the new branding and imagery, which you can also see here:

We (Really) Are Family

We often feel like one big family here at Kuhlmann Photography, and like families we enjoy encouraging each other in our extracurricular pursuits. Also like family, we sometimes forget to acknowledge these pursuits when we should! A couple of weeks ago our very own Eric Exley engaged in debut performances (back-to-back sets) with his new musical project, He Is Us. Performing at The Post Family’s Chicago Design Week party entitled We Are Family, the band played a blend of angular guitar riffs and resounding melodies anchored by a rhythm section captained by Eric on the drums. It’s easier to apply geographic descriptors to their music than it is to use genres – the post-hardcore energy of South Florida combined with the jagged guitar riffs of Midwestern “emo” rock and rising vocals of Pacific Northwestern indie, all flavored by Southwestern power rock. That works pretty well. While the band is still working on recording and releasing official versions of their songs, they have a Facebook page you can check out if you’d like to keep abreast of the situation. We highly recommend it. (We also highly recommend use of the word “abreast.”)

The Daylight Death of Night Life

Chicago-based club/electro/disco house duo Moneypenny came by the studio to create new images for their website and promotion. We’re keeping the final images under wraps until the launch of their new site, but a couple behind-the-scenes images give a hint of what went on…
